Overview

It is important to understand the legal framework for equality and your legal obligations not to discriminate in employment or the provision of goods, facilities or services, as well as the opportunities the law provides for implementing positive measures to help bring about greater equality at work. The law covers the six equality strands of age, disability, ethnicity, gender (including pay and transgender), religion or belief and sexual orientation in relation to employment and all but age in relation to services.

Ensuring that you comply with the law makes good business sense and helps you to minimise both reputational and financial risk resulting from costly litigation. These guides provide an overview of the law and cover all six diversity strands however are not a definitive legal guide. For specific guidance seek legal counsel.
