Charles Mack, Equality and Diversity Manager, explains why Faber Maunsell are using the Gold Standard Diversity system:
What influenced Faber Maunsell to continue improving its diversity practices?
“We definitely recognise the business case for addressing diversity. All of our public sector tenders contain a section about equality and diversity and some are even starting to count it as a percentage of the final score. At the same time, the senior directors of Faber Maunsell also recognise that it is the right thing to do: we must ensure we are an attractive company to as wide a range of people as possible.”
How has the Gold Standard Diversity System helped you?
“When we launched a new equality and diversity action plan in 2008, we were particularly interested in measuring our progress against an external standard. We regularly check our policies against the guidelines on the Diversity Works for London site to ensure we’re addressing everything we should be. We are still at an early stage; however, we have already been able to prioritise areas of under-representation for development.”
What sets the Gold Standard Diversity System apart?
“The fact that the Gold Standard Toolkit comes free sets it apart for us – and, as we pledged to ‘Go for Gold’, we’ve also received free consultation and assistance with developing an action plan. There are various forums out there that offer case studies and resources, but few cover all aspects of diversity as the Gold Standard Diversity System does.”
