Adverse impact

This is when a policy is found to affect one or more of the equality groups and the effect is an unfavourable, or adverse, one. If this happens you should first of all consider if the adverse impact could be unlawfully discriminatory and also what measures you can take to mitigate the adverse impact, perhaps by taking an alternative approach.
